How Does Zoom Work to Whiten My Teeth?

How Does Zoom Work to Whiten My Teeth?

Do you see yellow or discolored teeth when you look in the mirror? If the answer is yes, do you dream of the day when you’ll see sparkling white teeth instead?

The good news is that you don’t have to dream any longer. The Zoom teeth whitening at Portrait Dental in Katy, Texas, is more effective — and more accessible — than you realize.

Read on to find out just how the Zoom whitening process works, and how you can take advantage of the procedure.

Why do your teeth need to be whitened?

Your teeth likely need whitening for one of two reasons: habits or age. Your habits, including what you eat and drink, can mean regular exposure to discoloring substances, such as: tobacco, coffee, wine, blueberries, pasta sauce, and more. Your teeth are light-colored, so certain substances can stain them easily.

Your teeth also tend to naturally yellow as you age and the outer layer of enamel on your teeth starts to flake away as a result of wear and tear over time. The more enamel that wears away, the more the yellowish dentin underneath is exposed, causing your teeth to appear discolored.

Some types of prescription medications with tetracycline can also leave your teeth discolored, as can injuries or trauma to your teeth.

How does Zoom work?

The in-office Philips Zoom! whitening procedure is one of the most effective actions you can take to whiten your teeth. While there are other ways to use the Zoom whitening products, including take-home products, we have found the best results when Dr. Minh Nguyen performs the procedure in our office.

Once you’re settled in the chair, he will cover your tongue and gums with a rubber dam to protect them from exposure to the whitening substance. Next, he’ll paint the surface of each of your teeth with a specially-formulated bleaching solution. On its own, this solution will provide some brightness, but it’s the next step that really makes your teeth shine.

Dr. Nguyen then shines a special LED light directly onto your teeth, triggering a chemical bleaching reaction that eliminates discoloration and brightens your teeth all at the same time. He repeats this process three to four times, increasing the whiteness of your teeth by up to eight shades. The entire process usually takes less than an hour.

When you’re ready to leave the messy teeth whitening strips behind and let a professional whiten your teeth in a quick, easy procedure, contact Portrait Dental for a consultation. You can call our office or request an appointment with our easy online scheduler.

We’ll build a plan that fits your needs and your budget so you don’t have to be disappointed in your smile any longer. A fresh, new smile is closer than you think!
