Almost 50% of Americans suffer from dental anxiety or extreme dental fear. If you fall in this group, find out how oral sedation might just make your next dental visit much less stressful.
You dread looking in the mirror every morning because you know you’re going to see exactly how imperfect your smile is. Your teeth are crooked, have gaps, and there’s even a chipped tooth from that accident a few years ago.
You’re self-conscious about your smile, but you’ve never taken the time to do anything about it.
At Portrait Dental in Katy, we believe the time to fix your smile is now, and we have the ultimate tool to do it: veneers.
Veneers are thin ceramic shells that are affixed to the front of your natural teeth to improve their appearance. We consider them to be such a good tool because they are so versatile.
They can be used to cover just one tooth that has been chipped or cracked, or a series of six to eight veneers in a row can cover up imperfections in your smile, such as pointy teeth, crooked teeth, small teeth, and severe discoloration.
If you have small gaps between teeth, veneers may even be able to cover the gaps to give you a nice, even smile.
If you are interested in veneers, your first appointment will be a consultation to determine your goals for your smile and find out what kind of shape your teeth are in. Dr. Minh Nguyen will examine your mouth and take x-rays if necessary before making his recommendations. If you have cavities or teeth that are very crooked, you may need dental or orthodontic work done before he can install veneers.
Assuming you are a good candidate (you probably are because veneers cover such a wide variety of problems), Dr. Nguyen will shave a thin layer of enamel off the teeth that will be getting veneers.
He will then use dental putty to make an impression of your teeth, which he sends to the lab that will make your veneers. When the veneers arrive, he will bond them to your teeth and your new smile will be complete.
Veneers should last for 10 to 15 years if you take proper care of them. This includes avoiding habits such as chewing on ice or hard candy or biting your nails (you could chip or crack your veneers) and taking such actions as brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing every day, and getting regular cleanings and exams every six months.
If you are ready to experience the ultimate cover-up when it comes to your teeth, contact Portrait Dental (call or use our online scheduler) to get started!
